galaxyOkay, is it just me, or did we take three steps back with the odbc driver?
I was still having problems with driver version 10.1.0.238, which was an update after 2007.x was released, had ssl bundled in, and changed the port to 1707 just for fun.
So I check the latest driver download to see if there is a new version (which by the way is the only means I have to check if the driver has been updated), and low and behold it is a new version, namely 11.50.0.42618
But wait, there is now a new install note that I again need to install the openssl library, huh? So I do it as instructed.
After installing the new driver, which has a completely different configure interface, the port has changed back to the original 1706 just to screw with me and my firewall settings.
But wait, there’s more, now I can’t see any tables with Excel.
While the old one had it’s problems, and they were numerous, it did work at least part of the time.
Will someone please explain what we are doing, what works and what does not, and help me from spending hours more trying to get a working solution.
I am ready to give this back,
Galaxy

smudgiebottomI hear your pain – I went through the fun of going to the bundled 2007 version in the 3 days we originally had, got it working, only to find out it was being extended.
I go back now and see the same issue you do, and we have to resort to the ‘Options’ and ‘Show System Tables’ in Excel in order to see the tables. Next time we open Excel, we turn that option back off. It’s a pain, but at least we know how to get around it!
I too would like to know what version I should be standardizing my users on as they are sporadically ringing me with problems, and I’m losing grip which version they are (or should!) be using…
Cheers,
Matthew

galaxyRE: What is going on with the ODBC driver???? Your driving me nuts!!!
Matthew,
Thanks for the tip, but it get’s even more interesting now.
The first attempt I get the message, “No Tables Found”, and I turn on the options like you mentioned, and all the tables appear.
Close excel, and launch it again.
Second attempt, no message, but instead I see only system tables – the actual OA oracle system tables, but no user tables. So I turn the option off, and the system tables go away and back come the user tables.
This will keep somebody awake tonight.
Thank God, at least the basic Excel MSQuery feature is now working, at least until they fix the problem described above.

smudgiebottomGood to know that is EXACTLY the same scenario that we get. I’ll stop tearing my hair out thinking it’s my fault now.
I hadn’t raised a case because I thought the v2007 ODBC would be different (which it was for those 3 days), but it’s now gone altogether!
Cheers,
Matt

mhuffmanWe apologize for the inconvenience.
For the time being, for the best experience with ODBC, please install and use the ‘old’ version of the driver which is currently available for download in your NetSuite account. The help files have been updated to reflect the necessary instructions for this driver rather than the new version that was posted at the end of November 2007.
It was our intention to transition all users to this new version, however, issues were identified in the new driver that necessitated re-negotiation with our ODBC vendor to extend the lifespan of the old driver so our customers could continue to download and use it. Again, this was done to provide the best stability and performance experience with NetSuite ODBC access while we evaluate the issues with the new version of the driver.
The behavior you describe in Excel is a long-standing known Microsoft ODBC bug. The only way I am aware of to work around it is to click the Options button, toggle a setting such as ‘System Tables’, and click OK to return to the tables list.

Thanks Malin,
I’m happy to have a working environment, but it has been frustrating with the solution as moving around. I’m hoping this fixes all my issues, and if so, and this will be stable, then I am a happy camper.
Thanks again,
