saraelovHi –
I’m new to NS and in a company that has had the product for over a year. I am the NS administrator and they’ve asked me to “fix” all their custom financial reports. These reports seem to have been created by employees who are no longer with the company.
I have read and seen everything on NS Central on ths topic. I have a list of all our Custom reports (they show with the Warning sign), and I have NO idea how to fix ANY. I’ve tried this for many hours on many days. I even took the Essentials Class (one full week of training) and reporting was barely glossed over (the class is really for new customers, not “Step Ins” like myself.
How do you use FRB? How can I change these reports? I know some programming and some reporting tools, but none of that helps here. I am completely stuck. I am not an Accountant, but a Project Manager/Developer/Analyst type.
Thank you in advance – anyone and everyone.

As you mentioned, FRB Help can be found by going to Netsuite Central – there are training videos and a compilation of frequently asked questions. Also, you may access the documentation on FRB in the the Help Center (enter Keyword Financial Report Builder) or by clicking on this link https://system.netsuite.com/app/help…PO_CUST_NEG200.
Here is a general guide on the activities that you will need to go through.
1. Identify which old financial statements will be created.
2. Determine which reports to keep.
3. Compare old customized financial statement results to new standard financial statement results.
4. Review any differences.
5. Familiarize yourself with Financial Report Builder Functionality.
6. Create your custom financial reports using the Financial Report Builder (steps available on the Help Guide).
If you need further assistance, you may contact Support online or by phone (option 7,1). Thanks.

Let me further clarify one thing. You can’t take the old report and fix it or do anything to it to make it work with FRB. Instead you will have to recreate each and every report that you need from scratch in the FRB. So, #1 figure out which reports you really need. #2 Take one report from the old financials, and take a look at the customization and jot down some notes about what was customized on that report. #3 Then go into FRB start with you basic report (i.e. a profit and loss statement) and then customize the filters, etc. trying to duplicate the customizations that were done on the old report. Now, a few things are different. Before if you wanted certain accounts to appear or not appear on the report or in a certain place you would do it through the chart of accounts. Now you will need to use the edit layout (first screen in the FRB) to do that. If you have more questions let me know.

Thanks so much, Julie. Your info was a critical piece – I didn’t realize there was no “fix”. I’m going to try a report again – and I WILL post with questions and I will call support, too.
My biggest problem is that I don’t know HOW to use FRB at all. Is there a “training guide” or anything? I don’t even have a specific question, other than “How do I get started”.
That said, I will try another report – tomorrow or Monday. Now that I know I’m “starting over” I might be able to figure it out.
Thanks –

mhuffmanThere is quite a bit of documentation on how to use the FRB. Within the online help, start with the topic “Using the Financial Report Builder”. From there you’ll find links to many more specific topics on individual features like working with layouts and the various types of rows.

Thanks, Marge. I’ve been trying that…get lost in the links, then get interrupted, so it’s just fair. And some info, like renamed fields or entire tables removed, is not documented anywhere, so I get going on a report and get stuck (and frustrated).
Do you know (or does anyone know) if there’s any way to print the entire Section on FRB from Help? I like to write notes, underline, hilite when I’m reading to learn.

There is a Financial Statements Guide PDF, available from the User Guides tab of the NetSuite Help Center. You can print out this PDF — all but the first 12 pages of it cover the Financial Report Builder. The first 12 pages generally describe NetSuite financial statements.

You are a dear! (Boy, that makes me sound old, but….)
I have been able to customize several reports (redo them), but still have so many questions.
Thank you!
