When creating a saved search for Customers, we would like to filter on Address : State/Province. The filter works fine but we would like to limit the choices to only the United States.

Even better would be limiting the filter to only those 5 states we conduct business.

    Would anyone have ideas?

Man, I wish we had more control over the “Available Filters” within saved searches. I’d love to make dynamic filters like you’re suggesting. Unfortunately as of now, I don’t believe there’s much you can do.

One possible (if long-winded) solution would be to create a custom field that references the state/province list, and then in the custom field limit that via the Sourcing & Filtering tab to only US states. Of course, then you’d need to populate the field with whatever is in the actual Address : State field, probably via workflow I’d guess. You’d also need to run some kind of mass update / CSV import to update your existing customer accounts. Then use the new custom field to filter in the saved search instead of the original field.

Again, it’s a long road but it would accomplish what you’re after – as for filtering to only the 5 states you want, that might be tougher but perhaps a similar approach could be taken if you created your own custom list that the custom field accessed. That would then complicate your workflow as well…

Or, maybe there’s just an existing enhancement request that we can all up-vote. Anyone happen to know?

    Hello,

Issue 243503 [Saved Search > Available Filters > Ability to specify subfilters to lessen the values to choose from] has been filed for this.

This would be a huge enhancement for my company as well. Added my vote to the enhancement request.
