julian@papernetusa.comI customized the sales by sales rep summary report and added a column for Est. Gross Profit (transcation) . The result is a negative bogus number.
I customized the sales by sales rep detail report and added a column for the Est. Gross profit (transaction). I could not get the correct answer even after massaging the report.
Why NS makes it so difficult to get reports. It is amazing that in year 2008 we are unable to get a GRAPH to show our monthly sales for over a year period.
With all sophisticated features, NS still lacks some serious primitive features. We are unable to compete with web sites using Yahoo store ( $29.00/month ), because NS is not capable of calculating the shipping charges from various locations or from certain zip codes. Thia will make our offering a joke.
What do you think?

SeamusMonRE: Sales Rep. Gross profit not doable in NS.
Though i may look “new” here, i’ve been a Netsuite user for some 8 years and Netsuite has yet to tie the purchase and sales aspects together to do this. I pay my reps on GM, and right now it’s a 100% manual process.
Yes, i’m disappointed in NS in not focussing more on the Accounting side of things ( they like the shiny CRM part more ) and i can only hope that someday they tie the modules closer together..

I agree with the post above. We too pay our reps on GM but it is 100% manual. It’s a glaring oversight in my opinion that you can report on Customer Profitability and Item Profitability but not Sales Rep profitability. Come on NetSuite, get on the ball with this one please.
BTW, we are not using the commission module but we are interested in trying it. In some of the docs it looks like it might allow you to pay sales reps based on GM. Can anyone here shed some light on this topic for us?
Thanks,
David Jarrell

I have been able to customize a report that is correct but only if I use Sales Order transactions. I am unable to pull correct numbers from invoices… or I get those bogus negative numbers as well. Also, labor is not included in these reports, and we would like for some of our service items to be included.
So, in essence, I am unable to get a true Gross Profit report out of NetSuite. Seems that it should be so simple!

Please vote for Enhancement 25537. Will someone at NetSuite please look into this and try to determine why something so valuable and wanted is not scheduled for release?
Thanks.

I just voted. Now I just hope that someone from NetSuite takes action.
Thank you,

This fearure is explained and advertised in 2008 latest release as follow:
Real-Time Margin Data
Businesses that operate in highly price-competitive markets, with strong pressure from customers for discounted prices, often compensate sales people on the estimated gross profit expected as a result of a sale. In this environment, both sales people and sales managers need accurate and timely gross profit estimates. These estimates provide decision-making information to both sales people and sales managers throughout the sales process, beginning at the opportunity stage, on through to the issuance of an invoice.
Sales managers and executives need information about the interaction of prices, discounts, costs, and ultimately gross profits at several levels: line item, sales order, customer, and product.
The new Gross Profit feature provides this crucial information.
NS help documents just explain how to set this up. And for using it in reports, it just lists the fields available for reports.
Initially, despite the fact that NS help had this field as avialable fields for customization, they were not there. They fix it quickly. Then, we found out that these fields were shown in the customer center sales order!!!! it was fixed fast.
Now, the problem is that we can not get a meaningful report. How much a sales rep Est. gross profit is at any month? ( one can ger the report and export it to excell and…. but that would be a manual process.
I suggest not to release a feature when it is not ready. It is missleading and basically counter productive.

We have the commission module, but do not use it because it does not allow us to pay sales reps based on GM.

So, I just opened an email from our VP of Finance that read:
“Please create a saved report that is the Inventory Profitability Analysis but summarized by Salesperson.”
How ironic. Will Evan or someone else at NetSuite PLEASE pay some attention to this thread. We need your help. Help us to help make your product better. This is not an obscure request – it’s just basic business.
