I have a special request from our CFO:

Please ask Evan to look into why we cannot get a GP by sales rep report. Somehow they manage to do it for commission purposes and also by Classes and Divisions.

We are a bit baffled by the fact that a software package the likes of Quickbooks could provide us with all of the reporting needs that we had, but we can no longer provide the sales reps with that transparency and we have no idea how to report on Gross Profit other than for Classes/Divisions, as was mentioned.

One idea that we got from the User Group is to split up our Divisions into Sales Reps –

    Parent Division : Rep 1

    Parent Division : Rep 2

    etc

I am fighting this option, although it seems like the only good one at this point.

    Can anyone help? Please advise.

RE: Reporting on Gross Profit per Sales Rep

I went down the path of using “Departments” and assigning the rep. The issue is that you have to ensure all your expenses are correctly allocated, so your telephone bill is split to show the correct allocations for example.

On the sales order, you add the department, the sales man, the location, etc. A bit convoluted, just trying to set the department field to auto fill by salesman….this should speed the sales entries up a bit.

You then run your P&L by department, makes your sales forecasting a minefield.

    Good luck.

Making each sales rep a Department is a long way to go to solve what should be a simple issue. The Wholesale/Distribution companies that I know only care about Gross Profit. Sales are secondary. Yet the reports all seem to be focused on sales only.

Netsuite needs to be able to accommodate 100% accurate reporting (not Estimates) of Gross Profit by Sales Rep, By Customer, and By Transaction, etc.

I am hoping that we are just missing something and that this is already built in. Also, commissions seem to be able to be calculated by Gross Profit so at least for sales reps paid commission on gross profit we can get reports.

had it working through the “Departments” but having to fill all the fields manually made it too involved so shut it down.
