    I tried importing a large list of related items for a set of products and I got an error almost almost all of them which says "Invalid item reference key".

    I have 4 columns: subitem of, item name/number, item and type. I am trying to get these products to show up as recommended items by importing them as related items. What am I doing wrong?

    You have to import them with the name 'Store Display Name', it's very awkward but you can read about it here:

    This error "Invalid item reference key" means that the system does not recognize the item that is being used in the import. It could be the item in the subitem of, item name/number, or item.

    Make sure that you are using the exact name as how it appears when entering it in the UI.

    Thanks this is what it was. I was using the item name/number instead of the store display name.

    Side note: this is my one complaint about NetSuite as a business… the support/customer service process puts a burden on the customers to "file a case" or "reproduce the error". Yeah it's not a big deal, but the problem has been identified, it should be up to NetSuite to "file a case" internally for a known problem.

    I had to file a case where emails to @yahoo accounts were getting bounced, and then I was asked to reproduce the error. Just saying, world class customer service takes a complaint — from any source — and owns it through completion.
