My boss has asked for 2 reports, margin by product line and margin by customer. I have built the first one without breaking a sweat. I cannot for the life of me get the second one right.

Can anyone out there suggest how to do this? I don’t care if it is using Report Builder or a saved search cause i have had no luck with either so far.

RE: Margin by Customer report needed

See Customer Profitability report which can then be customized with % profit column, etc.

Much care and attention to details is needed for this report to be as accurate as possible, including solid accounting processes which track all the costs associated with each customer. The Revenue column is normally quite straight forward and pulls from Invoices. The Costs column is where the processes also need to be solid, and then the amounts can be more accurate, leading to more accurate margin reporting.

I suggest adding the % margin column via a Formula to this report, and then focusing on the high or low %’s that don’t look right, and start your investigations there. You’ll possibly find some large issues regarding processes, etc, and then those can be fine-tuned, and then you can continue over a period of time looking at the smaller issues and fixing those as time and resources allow.

Feel free to contact me directly for more help on this.

Thank you so much Barry. I had completely overlooked that one. Now that I have the base report I can begin investigating as you suggested. Thanks again. You are my hero.
