I have created a custom transaction column field. It shows up in the invoice, and when I print the invoice ticket. However, it is not showing up in the import assistant as a field that I can map to. I have created it identical to another field, that DOES show up in the import assistant.

Is there another step that I am missing that will enable it to be in the important assistant??

By default, mappable NetSuite fields are those available on your preferred form for the selected record type. Fields can be mapped for the import job if they are displayed (not hidden) and not disabled on your preferred form. If these fields do not include all of the data you want to import, you can specify a custom form that includes the fields you need, as an Advanced Option in the CSV Import Assistant.

My filed is not hidden and it is on the form that I am mapping. Like I said it will show up in the invoice and the printed form. If I manually type it is, it will show up in the printed, customer-facing, invoice. Should I file a case?

Is the field mappable on any of the forms under Advanced Options?

I would let Support know and provide all the details regarding your steps to reproduce including the field and preferred form setup.

On the Access tab of the Transaction Column Field setup record, what are your default access levels? If its set to View, it will not show up on the import assistant fields list.

If the field is set to "inline text" then it will not be available for mapping. Make the field normal and not hidden.
