sifar@ritaj.comHow do i define sub account in Journal import – it is not clear ?
For example in old system i was able to import journal as follows:
505101 EXPENSES : STAFF COST : Staff basic salaries & wages
The above is further explained as follows to show the structure:
505000 EXPENSES ( Grand Parent)
505100 EXPENSES : STAFF COST (Parent)
505101 EXPENSES : STAFF COST : Staff basic salaries & wages ( Child)
I cannot import same as above now
How do i define above account to import correctly.
NetSuite Help is not clear on this.
Thanks

You are using the correct format for sub accounts. Ensure that you exactly match the capitalization, spelling, and spacing of the names as defined in NetSuite with no leading or trailing spaces.

Why not just use the internal id’s for the accounts? I have been doing this since the upgrade and it works great.

I don’t understand why they switched from using the Account Number. My experience is that errors occur much more often when someone has to manually type in the entire hierarchy, especially when they are long as in the example above AND case sensitive.
Is there any plan to support using Account Numbers again? This seems much more intuitive. I would like to see the same option where you can use the internal ID, Name (full hierarchy as in the example in this thread), or Account number (‘external ID?’). That give 1) full flexibility and 2) consistent use from old version to new version.
Thanks,
Brian

I checked the capitalization, spelling, and spacing of the names as defined in NetSuite with no leading or trailing spaces. I even tried a small batch. But not
successful.
I even tried to import same journal imported under previous version again ( successly posted journal import of previous month) but but same error!
Manually entering the long journal is a long process but i had to do it as i cannot wait.
I think there are ‘bugs’ specially ‘account’ column ? need to to be looked into.
Thanks

You are right this is correct as far as old version is concerned but this
structure is not working under new release. I would like to bring the extract from NetSuite Help page below:
[QUOTE
Guidelines for CSV Import Files : Transactions Imports : Journal Entry Import and Intercompany Journal Entry Import
Column Header Field Size Notes
Account N/A This field is required and should match the name of an existing account at Setup > Accounting > Manage G/L > Chart of Accounts .
If the Use Account Numbers preference has been enabled at Setup > Accounting > Preferences > Accounting Preferences , it is recommended that values include both account number and name, for example: 11000 Accounts Payable.
Important: For ease of use and compatibility with the previous journal import, account number only values for the Account field are also supported, for example: 11000.
If this preference is not enabled, values should be account name only, for example: Accounts Payable.
For a subaccount, must include the Parent Account Name and Subaccount name separated by a colon (for example, Checking : Purchases).
Ensure that you exactly match the capitalization, spelling, and spacing of the names as defined in NetSuite with no leading or trailing spaces. .[/QUOTE]
How do I define the account as per example give in my mail?
With multi structured account ( i.e. Grand Parent/Parent/Child) with name and number
Thanks

skasaiHi Sifar—please file a support case so it can be investigated. You are using the correct format for multi structured sub-accounts.

You can references accounts on journal import using name or number. We fixed this back on 4/8 with issue 94262.
