I have two locations for which I want to generate separate P&L and BS reports. Without assigning locations to each transaction, and rather creating separate accounts for each location (e.g. “AR – X” and “AR – Y” and Revenue – X” and “Revenue – Y”) how do I run a report for just X and for just Y?

Can I select which accounts are included in a saved report or saved search?

Yes, you can filter which accounts are shown. I don’t know how successful you’ll be without tagging your GL Impacts to specific Locations, though. Any particular reason you want to avoid doing that?

    RE: Financial Report by Location

    Thank you for your reply.

What if my transactions are not assigned locations? Can I create a custom P&L and Balance Sheet report that only shows certain accounts that I specifically manually select?

Situation: I have two office. The offices have their own accounts with no overlap (i.e. a balance of $100 in the Accounts Receivable – KS account is 100% attributable to my KS office). Therefore a P&L report showing only the accounts that are attributable to my KS office would be the P&L for that office.

Goal: Without assigning locations to transactions I want to be able to view a separate P&L and Balance Sheet for each of my two offices.

Yes, like I said, you can customize your reports/searches to view only specific accounts. I had guessed you made location-specific accounts for AR and stuff. Part of the problem is that you won’t be able to do this with all accounts. Unless you want to manage location-specific SKUs, your COGS cannot be managed in this way, for one example. There’s several other accounts like this. So by filtering out certain accounts completely, I doubt you’ll get something that will balance.

If it works – great. If it doesn’t, you may have to tag Location on all your transactions.

    RE: Financial Report by Location

    Hi Dan,

The decision to use or not use Locations (or Classes or Departments) is a critical issue, and can have a profound impact not only on your processes, but on the ease and accuracy of your reporting. If you would like to discuss this in more detail with me during a free web / phone discovery meeting, please let me know.
