    I am having an issue with the reporting preferences. I know that I can report by period or by transaction date.

    I want to be able to choose to report “previous months this fiscal year” for some scheduled monthly reporting, which is only an option if I report by “transaction date”. However, I also want to schedule budget reports and I have to have the reporting preferences to “period” to do so. But in doing so, I can’t find a reporting period that has “previous months this fiscal year” as an option. So, I then have to run the reports manually.

    I can’t be changing by preferences all the time. Am I missing something or is there another workaround? the help desk tried but was not helpful

    I’ll be interested to see what responses you get because I’m constantly changing my preferences back and forth, as well.

    I have my prefernce set to “Report by period = Financials Only” and I don’t seem to have this problem. Have you tried that?

    I think Babette has nailed it.

    By doing Financials only, you will only be reporting by period for all reports listed under the Reports > Financials menu.

    Thus leaving you to view the budgeting report with Transaction date.

    Problem solved?

    Actually, problem not solved.. When I leave it with “Financials Only” I lose the ability to program a scheduled report that says “Previous months year to date”. I send out scheduled reports to the owner on the 20th day of the month following the month end which required me to choose ‘previous months year to date”. In additional to the balance sheet and P& L, I want to send out scheduled budget variance reports. This requires me to choose a preference.

    I have to just send them manually, which defeats the purpose.
