We have created useful searches for looking at activities, messages, notes, etc. and have found that the searches time out if we try to include to much detail (grouping customer records and summing up underlying records) which lead us to using variations of the tools through Reports.

There is in issue when using a report when including Email/Message ‘Memo’. We use a lot of Templates with HTML in the background and when viewing the message in a report, the HTML is included as text, leaving the message as unreadable and useless without drilling into the message record.

Need to find a way around this.

As far as I am aware, you cannot add scripting or other handling instructions to reports. If you could run these as saved searches, you might have more options but as you say they may time out. Have you considered an Excel web query with a macro to reformat the data? The solution really depends upon how big the data set is that you are mining. Sometimes you can script a report that gets successive short result sets, builds an array and sorts via code if absolutely necessary.

On the other hand, do you really need the messages themselves in the report?
