    I'd like to script the "Create New" menu in customer records so that some customers have Sales Order in the menu and others do not. I've already created a checkbox in the customer record to denote which ones get it and which ones don't but need to find a way to prevent users creating sales orders from the customer record.

    This is not possible. The only thing you can do is use scripting to either add or not a BUTTON. But you can't add to the Create New menu.
